Let’s be honest: choosing to be Blessed sounds great in theory. In practice, at 61, with real life happening all around me, it’s like trying to meditate in a hurricane. But I’ve found ways to make it work. Small ways. Practical ways. Ways that fit into actual life.
Here’s what being Blessed looks like in the real world, with real limitations, real responsibilities, and a real body that has opinions about everything.
Morning: Setting the Intention (2 minutes)
I don’t have time for an elaborate morning ritual. But I have two minutes while coffee brews. In those two minutes, I set my intention to be Blessed. Not all day. That’s too much pressure. Just for the morning. Just until lunch.
I say it out loud: “This morning, I choose to be Blessed.” Sometimes I believe it. Sometimes I don’t. Doesn’t matter. The choosing matters.
The Three-Touch Rule
I try to touch Blessed three times during the day. Touch it, not master it. Not embody it completely. Just touch it.
Maybe it’s bringing Blessed energy to one email.
Maybe it’s finding something Blessed in a difficult conversation.
Maybe it’s taking a Blessed breath before responding to irritation.
Three touches. That’s all. More is bonus. Less is human.
The Reality Checks
Throughout the day, I do quick reality checks:
10 AM Check: How am I doing with Blessed? No judgment. Just noticing. If I’ve forgotten completely, I reset. New intention for the next two hours.
2 PM Check: Where could I add a drop of Blessed to this afternoon? One drop. Not a flood.
6 PM Check: Can I bring Blessed to dinner? To evening? Even for five minutes?
These aren’t tests. They’re gentle reminders. Tap on the shoulder. “Remember? We’re practicing Blessed today.”
The Minimum Viable Blessed
What’s the smallest possible way to be Blessed? That’s my baseline. Can’t manage an hour of Blessed? How about a minute? Can’t manage a minute? How about one breath?
I always aim for the minimum viable Blessed. Anything more is a gift. This keeps it achievable. Sustainable. Real.
The Integration Practice
Instead of adding Blessed as another thing to do, I integrate it into what I’m already doing:
Walking the dog? Walk with Blessed attention.
Making dinner? Cook with Blessed intention.
Listening to my husband? Listen with Blessed presence.
Dealing with difficulty? Respond with Blessed grace (when possible).
It’s not about doing more. It’s about bringing Blessed to what I’m already doing.
The Evening Review (30 seconds)
Before bed, I take thirty seconds to acknowledge any moment of Blessed from the day. Doesn’t matter how small. Doesn’t matter if it was accidental. If it happened, I acknowledge it.
“Today I was Blessed when I didn’t honk at that terrible driver.”
“Today I was Blessed for thirty seconds while petting the dog.”
“Today I was Blessed in choosing to try at all.”
This isn’t about scoring. It’s about noticing. Reinforcing. Building the Blessed muscle slowly.
The Weekly Reality
Some weeks I nail it. Multiple Blessed moments every day. Other weeks, I forget I’m even trying until Thursday. Both are fine. This is a practice, not a performance.
The goal isn’t to be perfectly Blessed. It’s to be slightly more Blessed than I was last month. Even 1% more counts. Over a year, that adds up.
The Tools That Actually Help
Phone reminder: One gentle reminder at 2 PM: “Choose Blessed.” That’s it.
Sticky note: One on the bathroom mirror. I see it. I remember. I try.
Partner check-in: My husband knows I’m practicing. He gently asks, “How’s Blessed going?” No judgment. Just support.
Lower standards: Progress, not perfection. Practice, not performance. Trying, not achieving.
The Bottom Line
Being Blessed isn’t about transformation. It’s about small, daily choices that gradually shift who we are and how we show up. It’s about practice, not perfection. It’s about showing up, even badly, and trying again.
Today I choose to be Blessed. Simply. Practically. Imperfectly.
In small ways. In real ways. In ways that fit into my actual life.
That’s the practice. That’s the journey. That’s enough.
